Sharpen your driving skills-and save money! Complete this six-hour defensive driving class and you become eligible for car insurance rate and driver’s license point reduction.

The Driver Improvement Program earns you (the principal operator) a 10 percent discount on collision, liability and no-fault insurance. This discount is good for three years, which can be extended by re-taking the course.

Completion of the program also entitles you to a reduction of up to four points on your driving record. The course can be taken again after 18 months to reduce any subsequent points you might accrue.

If you originally took the course for savings on your insurance and later receive violation points, you do not have to wait 18 months to take the course to reduce these new points.

The course is offered either as one six-hour class on a Saturday, Sunday or weekday (with a lunch break), or as two three-hour classes on two weeknights. Classes are held in 10 of the Club’s 14 counties.

The cost for the course is $35 for AAA members and $45 for non-members. AAA also offers a reduced rate of $25 on senior days for AAA members over 55 years old, and on young driver days for members between 16 and 24 years old.
